By Jane Hegland, ITAA President
Greetings, ITAA members! I write this message on the first day of spring, which this year involves yet another snowfall. It’s pretty outside, but in the north country, we are ready to be done with winter! We had a productive meeting in Cleveland in February. Co-Chairs Kim Hahn and Linda Ohrn-McDaniel, along with our VP for Conferences, Sheri Dragoo, are working hard to make for another great ITAA conference. If you’re looking for other reasons to attend, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is just across the street from our hotel! As part of ITAA’s efforts to increase international opportunities for our members, the Culture and Industry Learning Tours Committee has organized a trip to Uzbekistan coming up this summer, organized and led by Mary Littrell and Jana Hawley. As I mentioned in my previous message, I encourage all of you to become more involved in ITAA. I’ve had several requests from members about joining a committee, or other ways to participate. Whatever your interests, engage in ITAA. Your involvement makes a difference. Cheers, Jane ![]() Graduate Student Liaison Report

Call for Manuscripts:Advancing Design Scholarship in Textiles and Apparel
Submission Deadline: November 15, 2018; Expected Sage Publication Date: Late 2019
Editors: Sherry Haar, Kansas State University and Elizabeth Bye, University of Minnesota Design scholarship is misunderstood by non-designers and often by designers making it difficult to communicate value and impact on the field for promotion and tenure, funding, and award recognition. A lack of published manuscripts and examples representing design research in textiles and apparel contributes to an absence of awareness and understanding.
![]() TAPAC Update By Carol Warfield, TAPAC Executive Director
TAPAC is off to a great start in 2018! TAPAC currently has 23 TAPAC Affiliate Program Members whose Program Representatives will serve as members of the TAPAC Assembly of Delegateshttp://itaaonline.org/mpage/TAPAC18. These are programs that are interested in applying for program accreditation and/or learning about and being involved in the accreditation dialogue. Draft Textile and Apparel Program Accreditation Commission (TAPAC) Standards were used to conduct two pilot program reviews in October 2017 (Kansas State and University of Rhode Island). Based upon the feedback from those reviews, the TAPAC Board of Commissioners (BOC) fine-tuned and approved the Textile and Apparel Program Commission Accreditation Standards. They have been sent to all of the TAPAC Affiliate Program Members and are available to ITAA members upon request. They are also available on the TAPAC websitehttp://itaaonline.org/mpage/TAPAC26. As you will recall, these standards were developed through an ITAA Task Force initiative led by Dr. Gwen O’Neal with input from ITAA members at several ITAA Town Hall meetings. For a copy of the Standards or for information about TAPAC Affiliate Program Membership, please contact Dr. Carol Warfield, TAPAC Executive Director,cwarfield@auburn.edu or Dr. Elena Karpova, Pres., TAPAC BOC,karpova@iastate.edu . ![]() Student Fellowships and Awards
