Fairchild Publications Textile and Apparel Faculty Grant

The purpose of the Fairchild Publications Textile and Apparel Faculty Grant is to enhance the development of the textile and apparel field through support of ITAA members and their teaching and independent research activities. Emphasis for this award will be on the development of quality curricula and research that contribute either in depth or breadth to the field. One grant of $1,500 will be given by Fairchild Publications. The award will be presented at the ITAA Annual Meeting. (Appropriate examples might include spending time with a manufacturing or retailing firm to gain expertise to develop or strengthen a course or a program, developing curriculum materials that could be shared with others in the field, going to summer workshops to gain new research capabilities, research projects that fit the description above, or a focused combination of activities.

Criteria for Selection

  • Prospects for future contributions of the activity to the textile/apparel field
  • Uniqueness and anticipated effectiveness of the proposed effort(s)
  • Quality of the written proposal

Submission Procedure

Eligibility. Any faculty member who is a current member of ITAA is eligible for an award. Education must be the primary focus of the individual's work. For jointly proposed projects, at least one faculty member must be a current member of ITAA. A grant recipient may not receive an award two years in a row. Applicants with a history of membership and involvement in ITAA will be given preference for grants and awards. When proposals are equal in quality, Council and Board members will receive secondary consideration. Proposal. 4-page maximum, including 1) statement of the project and goals or objectives, 2) benefits to applicant and/or profession, 3) methodology or description of project, 4) feasibility statement of background and capabilities of the applicant as they relate to the proposal (should be written as a statement without reference to the name or institution for blind review), 5) expected outcomes and dissemination of results, and 6) any further information necessary to evaluate the grant proposal.

The proposals will undergo blind review. There should be no mention of name, institution, state or other identifying information within the proposal. The applicant's name and institution should be on the Application Form only. Proposal file name will be administratively renamed with an ID number.  Proposals with identifying information incorrrectly placed may be discarded at the discretion of the committee chairperson.

Expenditures. List 1) item needed, 2) item amount, 3) justification for item, 4) total amount of the grant, and 5) the minimum amount needed for the project to be done. The funding period will be for projects to begin December 1 after the grant is received. Grants will be acknowledged and awarded at the ITAA Annual Meeting. Grant funds may be requested for such expenses as printing, postage, telephone charges, travel related to the project, supplies, media/curriculum development, and mailing lists as appropriate. Grant funds may not be used for salaries for self and/or assistants, publication charges, or purchase of equipment.

Human Subjects. All projects involving human subjects must submit evidence of approval and authorization of an Institutional Review Board for the protection of human subjects. Such documentation is not required with the application but must be submitted before the project phase is initiated.

  2. 1 copy of ITAA Involvement Form
  3. Proposal and budget ready for blind review
  4. Vita, 2 pages maximum length

Compile files into one folder. Name the folder, “Fairchild - Applicant's Name”. Compress folder into a zip file and be prepared to upload the zip file during the online submission process. Deadline for submissions is April 1. Online submission site opens March 1.  Follow guidelines given in "Preparing Faculty Award Applications for Online Submission."

All awards are dependent upon receipt of the award from the granting agency and/or earnings on investments.
