Graduate Student Liaison Report

Summertime is here!   The end of semester crunch of getting final papers, projects, and assignments completed by the deadline is beyond us! Whether you are finishing up your creative design submission (due June 4!), taking a summer course, doing research over the summer, designing or learning a new process, or taking a well-deserved break, enjoy it! Take some time to go outside and enjoy nature, travel, or read a book (for fun)! Time to catch up on your Netflix shows before August rolls around!

Call for 2019 ITAA Graduate Student Liaison Nominees


Please nominate a graduate student (or yourself!) to serve as liaison representative to ITAA council for a one-year term starting January 2019. The Graduate Student Liaison is responsible for maintaining and monitoring graduate student communications, events, elections, and records. The liaison also proposes special topic sessions and newsletter articles to address emerging issues important to graduate students. The liaison attends annual and mid-year Council meetings and prepares bi-annual reports for Council review. This is great experience for future service to the organization.

Eligible students must be ITAA members and a first or second year doctoral student by fall 2018. A student vita, a brief vision statement regarding the candidate’s role as liaison, and faculty endorsement by letter of recommendation should be sent c/o Barbara Frazier, VP Education, to The deadline for nominations is September 14, 2018. The election will take place electronically in October 2017. All graduate student members are eligible to vote in the election.

Submissions for the 2018 Rutherford Teaching Challenge - Due June 15


The ITAA Teaching Innovation and Resources Committee invites submissions for the 2018 Rutherford Teaching Challenge. The Teaching Challenge is designed to encourage development and dissemination of innovative teaching strategies that address emerging issues in the apparel and textile field. This year’s theme is Incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) skills into the Apparel and Textiles Classroom. Submissions will be double-blind reviewed by the Teaching Innovations and Resources Committee. Winning submissions will be awarded $500 for 1st place, $300 for 2nd place and $200 for 3rd place. Winning authors will be invited to present their teaching modules at the 2018 ITAA Conference Poster Session. Please see the 2018 Call for submission guidelines.
