Textile and apparel (T&A) trade plays a uniquely critical role in creating jobs, promoting economic development, enhancing human development and reducing poverty even today in the 21st century. Notably, in the least developing countries (LDCs), the T&A sector typically accounts for 60–90% of their total merchandise exports and provides one of the very few opportunities for these countries to participate in globalization.

Meanwhile, global sourcing is at the core of textile and apparel (T&A) firms’ business activities today. Research on the firm’s global sourcing strategy contributes to the development of firm theory in the T&A industry and explains the pattern of T&A trade at the microeconomic level.

The topics related to textile and apparel trade and global sourcing are broad and can be approached from a variety of methodological and philosophical ways. Papers may address trade and/or global sourcing issues from business and industry, economic, sociological, marketing, political science, or pedagogical perspectives.  Papers from an interdisciplinary perspective are also encouraged.

Topics for this focused issue may include (but are not limited to) the following:

·         Global textile and apparel trade patterns and related factors

·         Comparison of textile and apparel export competitiveness

·         Social and economic impacts of textile and apparel trade

·         Fashion brands and apparel firms’ global sourcing strategies

·         Governance of the global apparel value chain

·         Debate on labor standards, environmental standards, social responsibility and sustainability practices in textile and apparel trade and global sourcing

·         Digital and automation technology and the future landscape of textile and apparel trade and sourcing
